DUBBO ELECTORATE CELEBRATES ITS LOCAL SENIORS OF THE YEAR 

Seniors in the Dubbo Electorate have been honoured for their valuable contribution to the community, receiving a Local Senior of the Year Award as part of the NSW Seniors Festival 2026.  Dubbo MP, Dugald Saunders, has presented five residents with awards as part of the festival.  “It is my great privilege to recognise and celebrate the recipients of the Local Senior of the Year Awards, who do so much to make our community better every day,” Mr Saunders said.  “I sincerely thank you so much for the valuable contribution you make to the people of the Dubbo Electorate and for leaving a great legacy.”  Recipients of the NSW Seniors Festival Dubbo Electorate Local Senior Awards are:

CARMEN GAIN RECOGNISED AS THE 2026 DUBBO ELECTORATE WOMAN OF THE YEAR  

Carmen Gain has been announced as the Dubbo electorate Woman of the Year at the NSW Women of the Year Awards in Sydney.   The Women of the Year Awards celebrate local champions, advocates and trailblazers who make a difference to their local community and recognise the outstanding contributions of women and girls across the state.   The Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders said the annual awards are an important opportunity to acknowledge the women who make a meaningful difference across NSW every day.  “Our community is incredibly proud to see Carmen honoured at the NSW Women of the Year Awards. Her work as a tireless volunteer in the Wellington community and as a dedicated teacher, have delivered a lasting impact locally, and this recognition is thoroughly deserved,” Mr Saunders said.  “She is an active and generous member of the St Mary’s Catholic School community, she gives her time freely to netball, touch football and soccer, has been President of the Wellington Amateur Swimming Club for the past six years and also volunteers with Western Area Swimming Association,” he said.  Carmen’s dedication and generosity to the Wellington Redbacks Rugby Club saw her recognised as one of two Club Persons of the Year for 2025 and she also contributes annually to the Wellington Eisteddfod.  “She is not only an incredibly community minded volunteer and dedicated teacher, but also wife to Patrick, mum to Hughie, Harry and Elsie, and I am thrilled to be able to recognise her with this award,” Mr Saunders said.  “It is clear that Carmen has demonstrated excellence with genuine community service and has exemplified the strength, capability, and generosity that define the women in our community and across NSW.”

Dubbo Electorate Encouraged To Celebrate Local Seniors 

People in the Dubbo electorate can recognise an outstanding older person in their community with nominations now open for the NSW Seniors Festival Local Senior of the Year Awards.  Local MP, Dugald Saunders, said the awards celebrate the tremendous contributions seniors make within our community.  “If you know a senior who helps make our community a better place through volunteering, innovation or supporting friends and family, now is the time to nominate them for recognition,” Mr Saunders said.  “We are very fortunate to have so many seniors within the Dubbo electorate who are generous with their time, energy and commitment. The entries are in and the winner of my 2025 Christmas Card Competition has been decided! First place goes to Haniyya (Age 12 – Central West Leadership Academy), while second and third have been awarded to Addison (Age 11 – Mudgee Public School) and Skyli (Age 10 – St John’s Primary School, Dubbo), respectively. Draw Your Ultimate Christmas Feast!

There’s nothing more iconic than gathering around the table on Christmas Day, but what favourite festive foods make your celebration special? Children of the Dubbo Electorate are being invited to get creative by helping design the Christmas card for local MP Dugald Saunders. BUDGET FAILS TO ARREST YOUTH CRIME CRISIS

The Minns Labor Government’s third bleak budget will leave regional communities defenceless against the escalating youth crime crisis. Outside of the $2m for Moree Youth Crime Intervention, $1.5m to continue the Coalition’s Maranguka Justice Reinvestment project in Bourke, and a measly $5.5 million in early intervention and diversion programs for young people in contact with the criminal justice system, there is no additional funding to help deal with the epidemic. New Police Officers  

Six new probationary constables have commenced duties in the Orana Mid-Western Police District after they attested at a formal ceremony at the Goulburn Police Academy on Friday, 2nd May 2025.    Class 365 comprised of 302 new probationary constables including 221 men and 81 women.  The recruits have completed eight months of foundational training and those allocated to commands within the Dubbo LGA reported to their stations on Monday this week to complete 12 months’ on-the-job training and study.  Two of the six probationary constables will be based in Wellington and the other four based in Dubbo.
