Support extended for bushfire-hit farmers

Bushfire-affected farmers across the region will continue to receive critical financial support following an extension of the Special Disaster Grant program. Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders said local farmers will have more time to apply for the $75,000 grant, and will benefit from expanded eligibility criteria. “This program has played a crucial role in keeping local farmers on the land,” Mr Saunders said. “More than 20 farmers across the electorate, mainly in the Mid-Western area, have already received more than $1.3 million through this program to help cover the costs of repairing and rebuilding infrastructure on their properties. A function planned by the Narromine Jets rugby league club will come at a lower cost to the club and attendees thanks to a grant secured by Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders. Safety barriers, wider road shoulders and new line markings are among the safety improvements now complete on a section of the Mitchell Highway at Cooba Road, west of Dubbo. Safety for students at Trangie Central School will be strengthened with a new school crossing supervisors to soon be appointed to the school. Region to benefit from community-based suicide prevention training program

A band of ‘Gatekeepers’ will be rolled out in the region, with the NSW Government investing $2.8 million over the next three years to train 10,000 volunteers in suicide prevention skills.
