Dubbo netball courts score upgrade

Netballers in Dubbo and across the region will have access to State competition standard courts, thanks to funding from the NSW Government.

Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders has announced $500,000 from the Stronger Country Communities Fund to upgrade the playing surfaces of seven hard courts at the Nita McGrath Netball complex.

“This is a really important project for the hundreds of junior and senior players who flock to the courts every Saturday during winter,” Mr Saunders said.

“These upgrades will meet the Netball NSW standards for competition, and remove the current ponding and cracking problems on our older courts.

“We’ll see seven of the courts updated with a new surface, and importantly there will be new rubber ‘under-surfacing’ to help reduce shock and the impact on joints.”

Dubbo Region Mayor, Councillor Stephen Lawrence, said it’s an important boost.

“The upgrades will not only help improve the facilities overall, but importantly it improves the safety of the players, reducing injury and potentially extending a player’s longevity on the court,” Cr Lawrence said.

“Netball across this region is an incredibly popular and well-supported sport. Our up and coming netball stars, and existing players of all ages, will certainly benefit from a fantastic new playing surface.”
