Lighting the future for Dubbo touch

Dubbo’s John McGrath Oval will receive a significant lighting upgrade, thanks to a grant of $683,206 from the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund.

Member for the Dubbo Electorate Dugald Saunders said the funding will provide a massive boost, particularly for touch football.

“This area is incredibly well utilised by touch, and these new LED lights will provide four additional touch fields with appropriate lighting. That will support the continued expansion of touch footy, as well as supporting other sporting codes including soccer, rugby league, rugby union and cricket,” Mr Saunders said.

“The project will include a power upgrade to the oval, along with the installation of poles, cabling and the actual LED lighting, which will minimise the environmental footprint and the ongoing maintenance to council and the community.”

The new lights will meet the Australian Standard for competition on six touch fields at John McGrath Oval, and will be a much welcomed and used feature of this popular sporting facility according to Dubbo Region Mayor, Councillor Stephen Lawrence.

“We thank the NSW Government for considering this upgrade in the Stronger Country Communities Funding program,” Mr Lawrence said.

“The upgrade will contribute to the success and growth of several codes of sport played at the oval, whose players make great use of this facility during their training and competition seasons.”
