How new change rooms are transforming Dubbo junior rugby league

Attending junior rugby league at Dubbo’s Apex Oval will be more accessible for all, with an amenities upgrade now complete.

Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders said Dubbo Regional Council secured $500,000 for the project from the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund (SCCF).

“As we saw recently with the Rabbitohs taking on the Raiders, Apex Oval is a fantastic sporting precinct, but the junior amenities were dated and just didn’t meet our modern standards in terms of accessibility,” Mr Saunders said.

“The junior rugby league club house now features new public toilets, including an accessible toilet, two change rooms with showers, and a referee/official’s room.

“The amenities are now accessible for all, enabling more kids from across the region to get involved – and stay involved – in sport, and all the health benefits that brings!”

The project also wouldn’t have been possible without a $60,000 commitment from the Dubbo Junior Rugby League Association, and in-kind contribution from Dubbo Regional Council.

“It’s great to be able to deliver this much-needed upgrade for one of our biggest sporting codes in the region, which will improve accessibility for local competitions and when hosting large-scale events,” said Mayor Mathew Dickerson.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW Paul Toole said the SCCF is already making a real difference to regional communities, with work on more than 2,000 projects underway in every local government area across the state.

“The NSW Government is committed to creating a more inclusive environment for participation in sport and better local amenities,” Mr Toole said.

“The NSW Government is investing record amounts to deliver the infrastructure needed to stimulate regional economies but we’re also backing grassroots projects that make a positive difference to everyday life.”

The $500 million SCCF is part of the NSW Government’s $2 billion Regional Growth Fund, which is being invested in local projects that improve the lives of people living in regional NSW.
