Swimmers from across the Narromine region are in for the ‘time’ of their lives, thanks to the NSW Government’s Local Sport Grant program (LSGP).
Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders has today announced $5000 for the Macquarie Yabbies Swim Club to implement a Wylas electronic timing system.
“The Yabbies get 50 to 80 kids at their summer club nights, and all of that record keeping has been done manually by volunteers,” Mr Saunders said.
“The new electronic timing system automatically assigns swimmers to heats and lanes, and kids will be able to view their times instantaneously.
“I’m proud to be able to provide this grant, which will ease the pressure on the club’s hard-working volunteers, and enable the club to host higher-level race meets, attracting visitors to Narromine!”
President Krista Morrissey said the NSW government funding would benefit the wider community, with the club planning to hire the system out to local schools.
“We’ve been trying to fundraise for this for a couple of years now, so this funding is a really great boost,” she said.
“It’s going to be a fantastic opportunity to give back to the kids, and the community who have supported us over the last four or five years.”
