Sporting Shooters Take Aim with Sod Turn

Sporting shooters from our region will soon benefit from an international grade shooting complex, with construction well underway on the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (SSAA) NSW Dubbo Range (Orana Complex).

Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders celebrated the milestone with an official turning of the sod for the new complex.

“This project was one of my commitments in the lead-up to the 2019 election, with the NSW Liberal and Nationals Government providing $3 million for the complex, so it’s fantastic to see construction moving after a couple of years of interruptions from COVID-19 and wet weather,” Mr Saunders said.

“The shooting complex will include state-of-the-art Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun ranges, a clubhouse, road network, parking and toilets.

“Not only will the complex play host to local competitions, but also state, national and international titles, which will also help provide a boost to our local economy.”

The complex has sustainability as a key objective, with the development team utilising onsite recycled materials to decrease cost and enhance environmental outcomes, as well as hiring locals to do the job.

Once complete, there will also be a 1600 metre range, one of the longest available to the public in NSW.

SSAA NSW President Lance Miller said he is hoping the complex will be complete in the second half of 2023, and is grateful for the support from the NSW Liberal and Nationals Government.

“This complex will benefit generations to come, with the possibility of expansions to a number of the ranges, and the type of disciplines that can be shot there, considered in the design,” Mr Miller said.

“A very big thank you to Dugald for supporting the shooting sports!”
