It might be only ten weeks old, but Wellington Public School’s Before and After School Care (BASC) and Vacation Care service has received a welcome boost from the NSW Government.
Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders has today announced a $20,674 BASC Establishment grant for Wellington Public School BASC.
“After years of dreaming, Wellington Public School finally launched its BASC service at the start of Term 2 this year, and it has been a roaring success,” Mr Saunders said.
“The school community includes a lot of shift workers, for whom the service is obviously invaluable, but it also perfectly complements the school’s breakfast program, and provides a safe place for some of the more vulnerable students.
“I want to commend the staff at Wellington Public School, as well as the school’s P & C, for their efforts in getting this service off the ground. I’m sure it’s making a huge difference for a lot of children and families.”
Wellington Public School principal Darryl Thompson said the Department of Education and other organisations have provided a lot of support for this vital service, which is also available to students from other primary schools.
“It’s a great place for kids to spend some structured time before and after school, which builds on the learning they’re doing here at school,” Mr Thompson said.
“We’re happy to speak to any families to see what support they might need.”
Families have until 30 September 2022 to access the NSW Government’s BASC voucher. Go to https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/basc-voucher for more information.
