A communal meeting space in Mudgee will be finalised thanks to funding from the NSW Government’s Community Building Partnerships program.
Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders announced today that Mudgee Lions Club has been allocated $18,000 to assist with the construction and fit-out of the facility, which will be located at the town’s showground.
Mr Saunders said the project fit the bill of the program and would allow for many groups in the community to use the space.
“So many not-for-profit groups and charity organisations struggle to find space to have their meetings and functions, but this facility will allow that to happen,” Mr Saunders said.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has put a massive strain on these groups so to be able to help provide a facility that will benefit so many people in the community is a real win-win situation.”
Mudgee Lions Club president-elect David Halpin welcomed the funding, saying it will help the club finalise what has been a long-term project.
“The idea came from the fact we were running out of space to run our drought relief programs from the small shed we were renting, and we realised there really wasn’t a dedicated facility that groups could use,” Mr Halpin said.
“The best part of this project, now that we have the funding to finish it off, will be that it will be available to any community group and we’ve already had several groups that have indicated they are keen to be involved.”
