Basketballers in Mudgee will enjoy an improved and safer playing surface thanks to a grant from the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Program.
Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders said PCYC Mudgee has received $178,174 to completely replace the court floor, and install retractable basketball hoops and backboards.
“PCYC Mudgee offers the only community-accessible indoor sports courts in the region, but the facility and fixtures are ageing,” Mr Saunders said.
“This upgrade will not only benefit Mudgee Basketball, it will also encourage greater participation in the valuable programs PCYC runs for youth in the region.
“As a government it’s great to be able to support initiatives that boost people’s physical and mental wellbeing, and I hope this upgrade will do just that!”
Club Manager Railene Doherty said PCYC consulted with Mudgee Basketball, which has used the facility for over 35 years, to ensure a result that would benefit all users.
“The integrity of the sports court floor has diminished due to the age of the structure and the volume of traffic using the facility,” she said.
“This upgrade will improve functionality and safety, and ultimately increase community participation.”
