Truck lovers and show-goers across the region are set to benefit from a roving piece of life-saving equipment thanks to the NSW Government’s Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program.
Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders has today announced $3,000 for the Golden Oldies Truck Club to purchase an automated external defibrillator for their club trailer.
“The Golden Oldies attract thousands of trucking enthusiasts to their Dubbo show every two years, raising money for local charities in the process,” Mr Saunders said.
“Club members also travel to other motoring and agricultural shows from Trangie and Trundle to Gulgong and Gundagai, and this funding means the Golden Oldies can turn their club trailer into a mobile AED station!
“Every second counts when it comes to cardiac arrest, so I commend the Golden Oldies for being proactive to saving lives wherever they go!”
Golden Oldies Truck Club president Jon Mancer welcomed the support from the NSW Government.
“I think for any community group like ours, being able to have an AED on site is incredible,” Mr Mancer said.
“We’ve got members of all ages and demographics, including some retired truck drivers who are older but still keeping active.
“Any few seconds you can gain in time, it’s absolutely lifesaving – but hopefully no one has to use it!”
