Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders is encouraging young people hoping to make a difference in their community, to apply to join next year’s Regional Youth Taskforce, a Ministerial advisory group with a strong voice into government.
Mr Saunders said the Taskforce provides young people aged between 12 and 24 with a unique opportunity to meet with government and inform decision making that will have flow-on benefits for their communities.
“Being on the Taskforce is all about representing friends, classmates and family to champion local causes, and play a part in making decisions that will help drive change in our region,” Mr Saunders said.
“Now is the perfect time to throw your hat in the ring, and be a part of making life better for young people in your community.
“It’s easy to apply, just fill out the form and make a short video or write a short piece telling us about who you are, and the most important issues impacting you and your peers.”
The 2021 Taskforce’s achievements include consulting with the Department of Education to develop a digital Student Learner Profile, a tool to keep a verified record of students’ skills and achievements in one place.
Narromine’s Taje Fowler, 24, was part of the 2021 Taskforce and said working with Regional Youth Minister Bronnie Taylor, the Advocate for Children and Young People and other like-minded individuals was “a fabulous opportunity” and “such a privilege”.
“Having regional youth advocates heard within an influential platform is incredibly important for young voices from the bush,” she said.
“Young people have so much to offer – they’re creative, know what works and have a good grasp in finding solutions to complex problems.
“I encourage all young people to take up the challenge of being part of the taskforce in 2022.”
The Taskforce will comprise 18 members, with two members representing each of NSW’s nine regions, and will meet four times throughout the year either online or in person.
Travel costs and accommodation will be covered for Regional Youth Taskforce members travelling across NSW for meetings. Applications are open until Friday 19 November 2021 at www.nsw.gov.au/regional-nsw/regional-youth-taskforce/regional-youth-taskforce-recruitment-2022
