Users of the Dubbo Girl Guides Hall in West Dubbo will enjoy better access and comfort thanks to funding from the NSW Government’s Community Building Partnerships program.
Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders said the group has received $91,000 to put towards a $117,000 upgrade of the Ray Mackay Memorial Guide Hall.
“Girl Guides has been empowering Aussie girls and young women for more than a century, but in Dubbo the hall is in desperate need of some TLC,” Mr Saunders said.
“This money will go towards improving disability access to the bathrooms, as well as the hall itself, meaning more girls can benefit from the range of activities Girl Guides offers.
“It’ll also make the hall more accessible for the many ex-leaders and ex-guides who still pop in from time to time.”
The funding will also go towards electrical refurbishment, repairing the roof and water-damaged ceiling and replacing a broken hot water system.
District Manager Amanda Manderson said it’s the most significant upgrade to the Dubbo Girl Guides Hall in about 10 years.
“We do have a few children with disabilities, as well as our Trefoil Guild, our senior members, who often come and meet in our hall as well so it will give better access for everybody,” she said.
