Golden Highway safety upgrades complete

Work to improve safety for road users on the Golden Highway between Dunedoo and Dubbo is now complete.

Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders said the project to widen and improve the road on a 1.6 kilometre section of the Golden Highway six kilometres south-west of Dunedoo is a win for all road users, providing safer and more reliable journeys in the Central West.

“This section of the Golden Highway provides an important link between Dubbo and Dunedoo and is used by locals, visitors and the freight industry,” Mr Saunders said.

“The Golden Highway is the main route between Dubbo and the Hunter Valley, Central Coast, Newcastle and Mid-North Coast regions, so it is a vital highway for residents in our part of the world

“The NSW Government provided $1 million for this road safety upgrade as part of the pavement rehabilitation program.

“Widening this section of the highway will improve safety for all road users by providing additional space for vehicles to recover should they veer off the road.

“The upgrade has the added benefit of strengthening the road surface that will extend the life of the highway for decades to come and reduce the need for ongoing maintenance.”
