Veterans and their families in the Gulgong region will continue to have a memorial befitting their service and sacrifice, thanks to funding from the NSW Government.
Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders has today announced $3000 from the NSW Government’s Community War Memorials Fund for the Gulgong RSL sub-branch to commission a condition report on the Gulgong District Soldiers Memorial.
“Our region is so proud of those who served to make our country the wonderful place it is today,” Mr Saunders said.
“It’s important that we continue to honour them with a tribute that reflects everything they have done to ensure we can enjoy the freedoms we have today.”
Applications are now open for the next round of the Community War Memorials Fund, closing at 5pm on Monday 25 July 2022, and Mr Saunders is urging local veterans groups and councils across the region to apply.
Grants are available to cover projects like conservation assessments, honour roll repair, environmental advice, cleaning, and repairs to war memorial halls.
Past rounds have included funding to upgrade wiring at the Trangie Soldiers Memorial Hall, and conduct a structural assessment of the Wellington War Memorial.
“Each time you visit your local war memorial, I encourage you to consider how it could be protected, repaired or conserved for future generations,” Mr Saunders said.
To be eligible for funding, the memorial must be listed on the NSW War Memorials Register. A list of recipients, program information and the application form is available here.
