Event management scholarship to benefit Kate and her community

Dubbo’s Kate Wade has been awarded a scholarship to study a Diploma of Event Management thanks to a partnership between Destination NSW and peak events industry body Meeting & Events Australia (MEA).

Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders said the Event Management Scholarship Program is designed to stimulate the regional visitor economy by investing in home-grown talent.

“Kate already coordinates business events through her work with The Exchange Dubbo,” Mr Saunders said.

“This scholarship will not just support Kate with tuition, but will ultimately benefit our region by advancing her event management skills.

“The regional conference economy is worth an incredible $145 million each year in NSW, and this will give Kate the expertise to help secure a bigger slice of the pie for Dubbo and the wider region.”

Ms Wade is one of only 20 recipients of the scholarships, and said she’s looking forward to building on her knowledge in an industry she loves.

“Having that foundation to build on will be great not only for me but for The Exchange community and all of our region,” she said.

“It will allow me to really focus my skills on bringing some major events to the region.

“I’m looking forward to this being a platform to learn some new skills, broaden my reach with stakeholders like Destination NSW, and roll out some really amazing events that we can invite the whole region to!”

The 20 recipients were selected by a panel, which included representatives from the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW, MEA and the six Destination Networks.
