It’s hard to believe that it is almost 12 months since Dubbo Golf Club hosted the 2020 NSW Women’s Open.
The world was a much different place in late February of last year, and when we had more than 150 players from all around the world visiting our region none of us knew what was on the way.
I look back with very fond memories of joining with Deputy Premier John Barilaro to present Sweden’s Julia Engstrom with the NSW Womens Open trophy, surrounded by hundreds of volunteers and spectators who had flocked to the 18th green to watch the tournament be decided.
Despite the presence of COVID and a couple of false starts, this weekend Dubbo Golf Club will once again play host to a wonderful event – this time a regional qualifying event for the NSW Mens Open, which will be played at Concord Golf Club in March.
The NSW Government worked closely with Golf NSW to select six regional locations for qualifying tournaments, and this weekend’s event will carry $50,000 in prizemoney as well as the chance to book a spot in the main event.
We have also backed in the club by providing $1.3 million in early 2019 for the installation of a lift in the clubhouse and an irrigation system that allows the club to host such events on a pristine, well-maintained layout.
I look forward to once again joining the Deputy Premier at the club this weekend to crown the winner of the regional qualifier and I’m sure Dubbo will once again put on a terrific show for the visiting players and their entourages.
If you’re in the vicinity of the club, feel free to visit and take in some wonderful golf and show your support for events like this being brought to our region.
