Bobby’s dedication to Gulgong rewarded with surprise award

Seven decades of dedication to the Gulgong community has been rewarded, with Robert ‘Bobby’ Woods receiving a NSW Seniors Local Achievement Award on Tuesday.

In a surprise ceremony at Gulgong Showground, Mr Woods was presented with the award by Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders as part of the 2021 NSW Seniors Festival.

“Bobby is an integral part of the Gulgong community and has been involved with the show society since he was 12,” Mr Saunders said.

“He still attends meetings and helps at show time, whether it be collating entries or organising the pavilion, and he does this while preparing his own exhibits.”

Mr Woods is a devoted father of eight, a grandfather of 16 and great-grandfather of four, and Mr Saunders said his contribution to the community stretched beyond the show and agriculture sectors.

“As well as being a life member of the Gulgong Show Society, Bobby is also a life member of Gulgong Rugby League, was inducted into the Gulgong Sports Council hall of fame in 2009, and has been involved as a volunteer for Gulgong Swim Club and the local scouts,” Mr Saunders said.

“People like Bobby make our communities tick and I think it is great that we have been able to recognise him as part of the NSW Seniors Festival.

“Bobby was nominated for the award by people from Gulgong, and they worked very hard to make sure he received a surprise, which shows the high esteem in which he is held within the community.”
