Artists to benefit from restoration of historic landmark

Stuart Town’s Railway Hotel will strengthen its role as a home for art in the region thanks to funding from the NSW Government.

Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders said the Stuart Town Advancement Association (STAA) will receive $13,613 from the Creative Capital program to restore the floor and floor coverings, and install a picture-hanging system, lock-up cupboards and reproduction door locks.

“Restoring this historic landmark has been a real passion project for the entire Stuart Town community for decades, and it’s great to be able to provide a helping hand,” Mr Saunders said.

“The STAA has an MOU with Orana Arts and the inaugural Ironbark Arts Residency at the hotel was a great success.

“These improvements will enhance the space for use for arts and cultural programs, workshops and exhibitions, boosting the local tourist economy in the process!”

STAA secretary Tom Williamson welcomed the funding.

“The hotel has been idle for a few years but now it’s being reborn and this grant will allow that to happen,” Mr Williamson said.
