Planning is underway for a new festival in Stuart Town which organisers hope will become a major fixture on the region’s annual social calendar.
Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders has announced $10,000 from the NSW Government’s Stronger Together Grants program for the Stuart Town Action Group Inc (STAG) to host the Stuart Town Multicultural Festival on May 7.
“Stuart Town is perfectly positioned between the regional centres of Dubbo, Orange, Bathurst, Mudgee and of course, Wellington,” Mr Saunders said.
“The wider region has really diverse multicultural communities, and we know people are both curious about, and keen to celebrate, these different cultures.
“This funding will be used to help advertise what I’m sure will be a terrific event, as well as to hire equipment and secure awesome entertainment.”
Festival organiser Ben Penhall welcomed the funding, and encouraged any interested stall holders to get in touch through the STAG Facebook page.
“Just about every culture is represented across the former Wellington Shire, and we’re aiming to have at least 12 multicultural food stalls so people can sample different foods, talk to different people, and just gain an insight into those different cultures,” Mr Penhall said.
“Our aim is to build a major event, with strong visitation to the shops and motels. The whole region benefits out of these things.
“Any money we make goes back into the community.”
