The Wellington Race Club has received a big boost, with $95,000 from the latest round of the Community Building Partnership grant program to help maintain its new sand track.
The club upgraded the sand track in 2023 and has been looking to improve it further by installing irrigation.
Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders said the grant will ensure the irrigation goes ahead, which will improve the safety and the longevity of the training track.
“This funding means a great deal for Wellington, which will now have a surface similar to that being offered at larger tracks in regional NSW,” he said.
“Local trainers have been asking for these improvements for a while, and I know how excited they are to have an upgraded surface that will now be maintained properly.”
Vice President Simone Keirle said the club is really happy to receive the grant.
“Wellington Race Club hosts some fantastic race days throughout the year, including the iconic Wellington Boot two day racing carnival, and is the home track for several Central West trainers. Offering facilities to keep their horses in peak condition is imperative for those trainers who utilise Wellington Race Club’s facilities and it will be a welcome addition to our training resources,” she said.
“This money really helps us keep our track up to the standard of others in NSW, and after the significant revamp it’s wonderful to be in a position to install a watering system.”
