Swimmers in the Wellington region will be able to make even more of a splash thanks to almost $5000 announced by Member for the Dubbo Electorate Dugald Saunders today.
Mr Saunders said the Wellington Amateur Swimming Club has secured $4986 through the NSW Government’s Local Sport Grant Program.
The funding will allow the club to subsidise registration costs, providing greater access to swimming lessons, stroke correction and squad training.
“My own daughters learned to swim at the Wellington pool so it’s a club that is close to my heart,” Mr Saunders said.
“The NSW Government contributed more than $7 million to the redevelopment of the Wellington pool so today I’m really proud to announce that our support for the region’s swimming continues,” Mr Saunders said.
“Swimming is a skill for life and at a world-class facility people should have access to world-class coaching. This grant makes that possible.”
The $4.6 million Local Sport Grant Program aims to increase regular and ongoing participation opportunities in sport and active recreation in NSW.
Wellington Amateur Swimming Club life member Pip Smith said subsidising fees would help attract people back to the sport of swimming after the pool redevelopment.
“This grant will be a really important part of children improving their ability and confidence in the water,” Mrs Smith said.
