Wellington PCYC too cool “after” school

The youth of Wellington will have a more comfortable safe space to gather, thanks to the NSW Government’s ‘Community Building Partnerships’ program.

Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders has today announced $13,640 for Wellington PCYC to purchase two large freestanding, portable fans, keeping more kids cool after school.

“From their after-school and mini-movers programs to drop-ins, almost 50 kids converge on Wellington PCYC every afternoon,” Mr Saunders said.

“But Wellington summers are hot, and the PCYC is effectively a big tin shed with evaporative cooling and little insulation.

“These new fans will mean a cooler, more comfortable facility for the 270 members who frequent the club.”

The announcement comes after the NSW Government committed $7000 towards the cost of a new reverse cycle air-conditioning unit in the boxing shed, which Wellington PCYC Club Manager Sonya Rath said is making an enormous difference.

She said the fans will make the rest of the facility more comfortable, especially in summer.

“It gets hot here, but it’s one of the only real options for kids to go to, so these fans will be invaluable that’s for sure,” Ms Rath said.

“We always appreciate the support that we’ve been given by the NSW Government. It just makes our lives easier, and we can give back to the kids that come here.”
