TAFE students from Dubbo will be front and centre as part of a new NSW Government social housing project which will house more than 20 people in need.
Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders said the $7.4 million project on Myall Street in Dubbo was being delivered by the NSW Land and Housing Corporation (LAHC) in partnership with TAFE NSW.
Mr Saunders said the project marked an important moment in the NSW Government’s efforts to address the region’s housing needs.
“Local students will be part of the project team starting this week who will build and ultimately deliver this project,” Mr Saunders said.
“It is part of our $80 million Apprenticeship Program announced in the 2020/21 NSW Budget.
“These projects achieve two important things: they provide homes for those in need in regional NSW while providing vital on the job experience for the next generation of builders and construction workers.”
The two-storey development will offer eight one-bedroom and eight two-bedroom social housing units as well as two adaptable units for people with a disability.
“This project on Myall Street is the third we have built including two projects on Jubilee Street and Short Street which we finished last year, and we have another dual occupancy project on Ronald Street due to be finished later this year,” Mr Saunders said.
“This project aligns with the recommendations from the Regional Housing Taskforce to address regional housing pressures and support people in need.”
Construction on the Myall Street development is expected to be completed by late 2024.
