The home garden is set to be championed at this year’s Wellington Show which will bounce back bigger and better than ever, thanks to NSW Government support.
Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders said a $25,593 Country Shows Support Package grant would give the Wellington Show Society the boost needed to ensure the May 21 show goes on.
“The Wellington Show is a fantastic local tradition and this grant will ensure it continues to delight locals and be a part of our history for many generations to come,” Mr Saunders said.
“Organisers work tirelessly each and every year to put on the show for the benefit of the local community.
“They love to support local businesses where they can and that’s exactly what this funding is for. I’d urge everyone across the region to get involved in the 2022 Wellington Show!”
This year’s theme is Celebrating the Home Garden, recognising what has been a place of refuge for many people during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Wellington Show Society president Rob Dimmick said the funding secures the show’s financial future.
“For small shows, it’s difficult for us to make large sums of money and we just run one year to the next,” Mr Dimmick said.
“This money will be used to cover our basic expenses for running this year’s show with a focus on using our local suppliers.”
The Wellington Show is on Saturday, May 21, following local horse events on Friday May 20. The main event – the fireworks show – is scheduled for 7pm on the Saturday.
The $5 million Country Shows Support Package is part of the NSW Government’s $200 million Regional Recovery Package, which will deliver long term support and certainty for the regions as the state reopens.
