Regional residents reminded to remain vigilant and COVID-safe

Residents across the Central West and Western region are urged to make sure they know and follow the COVID-19 rules currently in place to keep regional and rural NSW safe, as the State remains on high alert.

Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders said the NSW Government is doing everything it can to keep the community safe, and we all need to continue following the rules to protect our loved ones and the community.

“As a region, we’ve been doing a great job of keeping our part of the world free of COVID-19, and given what is happening in Sydney, it’s more important than ever that we continue to follow the rules and keep each other safe,” Mr Saunders said.

“I encourage you to visit the NSW Government website for a refresh about what you can and can’t do right now, including the rules around having up to five visitors in your home at any one time, wearing a mask while visiting all non-residential indoor premises and capacity limits for businesses.

“You can still enjoy a meal and a beer at the pub, but it’s important to ensure you physically distance, abide by the four-square-metre rule both indoors and outside, and wear a mask.

“The Health Minister has also clarified that staff of businesses in regional NSW can be given the option to work from home, however it isn’t a requirement as it is in Greater Sydney.

People in the regions must not enter Greater Sydney, which includes the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Wollongong and Shellharbour, for any reason unless they are returning to their primary residence, getting the jab or attending a funeral.

“Right from the start, the message has been to pretend the virus is right next to you, and to act accordingly to help protect yourself, your loved ones, and others in the community, “ Mr Saunders said.

“We’ve had a couple of recent incidents in the regions, but fortunately these have not become seeding events, and I would ask you to keep doing what you’re doing, which includes getting tested if you have any signs or symptoms.

“The restrictions in place are helping keep everyone safe, and I ask you to please keep wearing your mask where appropriate, use the QR code check-in, and support our regional businesses as much as possible.”
