The quality of lighting and tennis courts at Toongi Recreation Reserve will be upgraded thanks to funding secured by Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders.
Mr Saunders visited to reserve recently to announce $61,200 from the Crown Reserve Improvement Fund has been allocated to the trust that oversees the complex.
“For smaller locations like Toongi this reserve and the facilities attached to it are something of a meeting point for residents, and it is where they come together as a community,” Mr Saunders said.
“The trust members do a great job of looking after the facilities but it is important that when there is a need identified to upgrade and improve what is on offer we make sure that happens.
“Adding a new tennis court and upgrading the lighting will help the people of Toongi and surrounds and allow more activities to happen here.”
Toongi Recreation Reserve president Scott Tourle said the funding was a welcomed boost for the trust and its members.
“We’ve only got the one court here which is up to really good standard so it’s good to be able to get a second court up and running,” Mr Tourle said.
“Plus we are getting lights so we will be able to utilise it more during the summer months and play at night, which will be great.
“The Toongi Hall is a great asset for the community and it is important that we keep upgrading the facilities or they will eventually deteriorate.”
