Netball courts upgrade complete!

The construction of two new hard surface Netball Courts at Nita McGrath Ovals in Dubbo is now complete in time for the 2022 season! The courts were delivered in partnership among Dubbo Regional Council (DRC), NSW Government and the Dubbo Netball Association (DNA).

The Dubbo Netball Association was successful in receiving $228,100 through the NSW Government’s Infrastructure Grants Program that has involved the conversion of two grass courts into concrete, all-weather playing surfaces.

Dubbo Regional Council Mayor Mathew Dickerson said it’s great to see the courts delivered on time so the association can train and prepare for a big year post COVID-19. “This is a great project that has been funded by the state government and Dubbo Netball Association, delivered by Dubbo Regional Council. Sporting clubs across the region were significantly impacted last year due to the disruption of COVID-19 Delta strain. We hope these new courts will provide the Dubbo Netball Association with the extra space suitable for all weather conditions to help the club maintain a strong local competition,” said Councillor Dickerson.

President of the Dubbo Netball Association Vanessa Ubergang said the new courts are a wonderful addition to the popular precinct. “This expansion now provides an opportunity for the growth of our other projects, including development of our Representative Pathways Program, the Reconciliation Action Plan and even a future addition of a Males Pathway. We really appreciate the work and time put in by our volunteers, the contractors, DRC and the state government to make this happen before our season starts,” said Ms Ubergang.

Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders said the NSW Government is proud to assist in the redevelopment of the courts and support the growth of the Dubbo Netball Association.

“Well done to the Dubbo Netball Association who have done a fantastic job bringing this all together, and the contractors who have done the work. It is sensational!” said Mr Saunders.

DRC engaged specialist company Sports Build to complete the work, via a competitive tender process. Sports Build actively engaged local subcontractors where possible to provide supplies and carry out work at different stages of the project.
