Local sporting clubs and associations across the Dubbo electorate are being encouraged to
apply for funding under the NSW Government’s Local Sport Grants Program.
Member for the Dubbo electorate, Dugald Saunders said they could receive a share in
$50,000 to increase participation, host events, improve access or enhance their facilities.
“Applications are officially open, and I would encourage clubs and associations of all sizes
and across all sporting codes to come forward,” Mr Saunders said.
“Whether it be football, netball, basketball, or swimming, we know how vital grassroots sport
is to our community.
“It’s not just important to living a fit and healthy lifestyle, but it is also extremely crucial to
looking after our mental health and staying socially connected.
“The former NSW Liberal and Nationals Government invested heavily in upgrading local
sport and recreation facilities and this is our chance to continue that legacy.”
Wellington Junior Redbacks Rugby Union Club received $10,000 from the last round of the
Local Sports Grant Program for training equipment.
President, Tom Whiteley said it has provided the Club with amazing opportunities.
“For a small club like Wellington Redbacks, this funding was a massive boost, and benefitted
all 135 junior players.”
“Anything that can help our younger players development is also going to help the club in the
future.”
Applications can be made for grants between $2,000 and $20,000 per project, which can be
put towards the purchase of new equipment or improving facilities and programs that allow
people of all ages and abilities to participate in sport and active recreation.
