Kids show off their ‘Country Christmas’

The children of the Dubbo electorate unleashed their creativity in this year’s Christmas card design competition, according to Member for the Dubbo Electorate Dugald Saunders.

Each year Mr Saunders calls for primary-school children across the electorate to help design his Christmas card, and this year St Mary’s Primary School in Dubbo excelled with students taking out first and second place!

Lilly Butler (11) took out the top prize with her drawing of a family enjoying Christmas lunch on the farm, while classmate Chelsea Brook (11) was hot on her heels with her image of a bogged but festive tractor.

In third was Mudgee Public School’s Maggie Blackman (12), with her wonderful picture of the adults’ table at Christmas lunch in a home among the gum trees.

“Lilly’s design – a family all together enjoying Christmas on the farm – really captured the importance of being with our loved ones at this time of year,” Mr Saunders said.

“Christmas can look very different from family to family, but it was wonderful to get an insight into what makes Christmas so special for children right across the electorate!

“A huge thank you to all the students who put so much into their designs this year – and the teachers and parents for their support!”

This year saw more than 450 entries and a record number of Highly Commended entries, as children across the Dubbo electorate showed off their talent and creative flair.

Lilly’s Christmas card design will start arriving in mailboxes across the Dubbo electorate next week!
