Students, parents, teachers and carers will enjoy safer journeys to and from school thanks to more than $740,000 to improve school zones as part of the $40.8 million School Zone Infrastructure Sub Program.
Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders said the funding, delivered in partnership with the Australian government, will help keep children in the region even safer as they travel to and from school by delivering key improvements in school zones around the electorate.
“From Lue in the east to Trangie in the west, these projects will create safer pedestrian connections for children, their parents and carers, and the school community,” Mr Saunders said.
Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Sam Farraway said more than $40 million will be invested in over 500 projects across more than 350 schools in regional areas.
“Every child in NSW has the right to get to and from school safely,” Mr Farraway said.
“The rollout of the School Zone Infrastructure Sub Program in regional NSW will help pedestrians, school children, cyclists and motorists share the roads safely.
“We have worked with the local councils to identify a list of suitable projects to deliver the greatest safety benefit across regional NSW.”
These projects were funded under the Australian Government’s $3 billion Road Safety Program, which supports the fast roll-out of life-saving safety works on Australia’s roads.
Projects in metropolitan areas are funded on a 50/50 basis, while regional projects are split 80/20.
