Grant to help Memorial race whip up a crowd!

An annual charity dirt bike race has been given head start, thanks to the NSW Government’s Local Sport Grant program (LSGP).

Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders has today announced $3,500 for the Dubbo Dirt Bike Club to prepare for the Mac Daddy Memorial Cup on September 25.

“The club launched the event in 2015, in memory of Mitch Mackay who passed away after a battle with a rare form of bone cancer,” Mr Saunders said.

“Understandably, the event still holds a very special place in the hearts of dirt bike riders right across the Central West, and in everyone who knew Mitch.

“I’m proud this grant will help get the track up to scratch for the event, meaning more proceeds from the day can be directed to charity.”

The event has raised thousands of dollars over the years for a variety of causes, including other locals battling cancer.

President Mark Cook said the grant was a “huge” deal for the volunteer-run club.

“It means the committee and the members don’t have to fork out their own money to get the track prepped,” Mr Cook said.

“And the maintenance – it’s a couple of hundred dollars here and there that really add up when you’re a volunteer committee.

“We’ll pull riders from all over the Central West – and as far as Newcastle – in honour of Mitch, and each year we donate money back for a good cause.”
