A $1.2 million upgrade to widen the main road linking Gulgong and Wellington is now complete, providing motorists with safer and more reliable journeys through the Central West.
Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders said the upgrade involved shoulder widening, reshaping the road, vegetation removal, drainage work, creation of a clear zone, and installing safety barriers.
“Wider shoulders provide a spot for motorists to pull off the road for unforeseen stoppages, such as breakdowns, while safety barriers help reduce the severity of run-off-road crashes,” Mr Saunders said.
“Safety improvements like these are helping us build a stronger and safer regional NSW, with more than 2000 motorists – including local, visiting and freight traffic – using this route daily.
“With the help of Mid-Western Regional Council as a partner on this project, we were able to deliver the upgrade and help make a real difference to this community.
“This important safety work provided jobs for 42 people in the past four months, providing a much needed boost to the local economy and regional NSW.”
Transport for NSW thanks motorists for their patience while this important safety improvement work was carried out.
