An educational partnership between Skillset Pty Ltd and the Wambangalang Environmental Education Centre will proceed thanks to funding announced by Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders.
Mr Saunders visited the facility last week to announce a $53,548 grant from the Community Building Partnerships program, which will see a multi-purpose shed constructed to house materials and resources for an outdoor learning space.
“Wambangalang provides an amazing outdoor learning environment however that obviously means that its programs are at the mercy of the elements, whether that be extreme heat, winter temperatures or rain,” Mr Saunders said.
“Having a multi-purpose facility that will not only store equipment but allow for learning to be taken indoors is a real boost for Wambangalang and providers like Skillset who use the facilities.
“Water stations and hand wash stations will also be included in the facility, so it will be fit-for-purpose from the start.”
Maryann Ebsworth from Wambangalang said the facility will be a welcome boost for the complex.
“We’re able to offer a lot of opportunities for students when they come out here to do their environmental education,” she said.
“We like to get the students outside and we like them learning, but we like them to be comfortable as well.
“We’re hoping this shelter will provide the facilities to do other learning activities so it’s really exciting for us.”
