Young people across the Orana region will have the chance to gain training and experience in some of the region’s most in-demand industries, thanks to the NSW Government’s Youth Opportunities grants program.
Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders has today announced $35,000 for Orana Support Service to launch its Mobile Youth Community Café.
“We know there’s huge demand across regional NSW for hospitality workers, and people skilled in customer service,” Mr Saunders said.
“This funding will empower youth in our region to gain hands-on experience in these areas as well as marketing, networking and working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
“This is exactly what the Youth Opportunities grants are designed for – supporting high-quality, youth-led projects which will help young people develop the talents and tools they need to reach their career and education goals.”
Orana Support Service CEO Tina Reynolds said the café would work in concert with local high schools, and provide a safe place for young people to gather.
“Staff will be able to check-in with students and provide early intervention to any vulnerable or at-risk youth,” Ms Reynolds said.
The café will be up and running in the coming months.
Youth Opportunities is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, providing $15.3 million to 329 projects across NSW since it commenced.
