Endurance riders and lamb-lovers alike will benefit from an amenities upgrade at the Windeyer Recreation Ground thanks to the NSW Government’s Crown Reserves Improvement Fund.
Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders has announced $77,200 for the construction of a new amenities block at the recreation ground, including showers and toilets.
“The Windeyer Recreation Ground is the heart of this community, hosting the annual Lamb Fest – when COVID doesn’t get in the way – and serving as a safe place to gather in emergencies,” Mr Saunders said.
“The ground also hosts endurance equestrian events, with hundreds of competitors and supporters flocking from across the state, camping, and riding through the night.
“The addition of permanent toilets and showers will make a huge difference to existing users of the facility, and enable more events to attract more visitors to the village!”
Land trust manager George Hamilton said the permanent amenities block will benefit the environment, as well as users of the ground.
“Hiring portaloos is expensive so we’ll have those savings and it’ll improve the environmental outcomes as well,” Mr Hamilton said.
“This will cap off that facility as an emergency evacuation centre, so that will be really great for the community and give us peace of mind.
“It’ll also mean we can go ahead with some other events to put our township on the map.”
