The Dubbo Sports Hub development is set to take off, thanks to the final $23.3 million required for the project being secured from the NSW Liberal and Nationals Government.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW Paul Toole said the Hub will be a world class, state-of-the-art indoor facility which the Dubbo community along with the wider region will reap the benefits of for generations to come.
“With five courts, a competition-standard gymnastics area and a regional PCYC, the Dubbo Sports Hub will be a first-class facility where local and regionally based athletes in key sports like basketball, netball and gymnastics can compete, train and develop their skills together under one roof,” Mr Toole said.
“This funding reinforces the Liberal and Nationals Government’s long-standing goal of delivering top quality sports facilities which allow our local athletes to achieve their full potential without having to leave the regions.”
Member for the Dubbo Electorate Dugald Saunders welcomed the final funding commitment to the project and said the Dubbo Sports Hub will become a major attraction, making the region an even better place to live, work and play.
“Housing some of the highest quality multi-use indoor sports facilities in regional NSW, this precinct will offer the space to accommodate Dubbo’s constantly changing sport and recreation interests,” Mr Saunders said.
“This elite sports complex will enhance the city’s strong visitor economy, generating tens of thousands of additional visitors to the region every year.”
PCYC NSW CEO Dominic Teakle said the Regional Indoor Sports Centre will be the centrepiece of the Sports Hub and will provide many opportunities for the Dubbo community to come together.
“The Dubbo Sports Hub is a fantastic piece of social infrastructure for Dubbo and will provide benefits to the community far beyond just sporting,” Mr Teakle said.
“It will be a place for community members from across the region to gather and form meaningful connections with others, while also offering youth an alternative to being on the street by providing a safe space to participate in activities are beneficial for their health and wellbeing.”
